Barkonaut Consignment FAQ
How does consignment work?
You bring in approved pet-related items for Barkonaut to sell on your behalf. If an item sells, you receive 65% of the final sale price and Barkonaut retains 35%.

What items do you accept?
We consider pet-related goods that are clean, safe, legal to sell, accurately described, and in good resale condition. Items must fit Barkonaut’s quality, safety, and brand standards. We may decline items based on condition, cleanliness, safety, authenticity, resale potential, storage needs, or event suitability.

Is there a consignment fee?
Yes. A nonrefundable $10 stocking fee applies to each item Barkonaut accepts. This helps cover inspection, cleaning, tagging, merchandising, handling, and administration. The fee is earned at intake and is not refunded if an item does not sell or is later removed from consignment. This fee may be waived for Barkonaut Members and/or specific events.

How long will my items be listed?
Accepted items may stay on consignment for up to 180 days from the intake date.

How are prices set?
You set your item’s initial price, but it cannot exceed the current retail price of the same item when purchased new. Prices should reasonably reflect the item’s condition, age, demand, and current market value.

Can I change my item’s price?
You can request a lower price in writing, including by email or acknowledged text message. Any price increase must be approved by Barkonaut in writing.

Will my item be discounted?
Items that have not sold after 90 days may be marked down by up to 25%. Barkonaut may also use promotions, bundles, or other merchandising strategies when appropriate. Your 65% share is always calculated from the item’s actual final sale price.

When and how will I be paid?
Barkonaut pays consignors within 10 business days after the end of each month for items sold during that month. We prefer payment by Zelle. A mailed check is also available and typically takes 5–7 business days to arrive.

What happens if a customer returns my item?
Customers may return an item within 3 days of purchase if it is in the same or good condition. If a return is accepted, Barkonaut may place the item back into inventory, return it to you, or otherwise handle the situation reasonably. Any customer refund or related transaction cost may be deducted from your proceeds for that item.

What happens if my item does not sell?
You still own your item unless it sells. Barkonaut will notify you when unsold items are ready for pickup.
Please pick up unsold items within 14 days of notice. If they are not collected and no written extension has been approved, Barkonaut may provide additional notice and then donate, dispose of, or relist the item at up to an 80% discount.

Can I take my item back early?
Yes. You may end consignment for an unsold item with reasonable advance notice. Please contact Barkonaut so we can coordinate pickup and address any pending sales, returns, fees, or chargebacks.

Is Barkonaut responsible if an item is damaged or lost?
Barkonaut uses reasonable care when handling consigned items. However, consignment takes place in mobile, outdoor, pop-up, and event settings, where items may be transported, displayed, and handled by customers and third parties.

Barkonaut is not responsible for ordinary wear, minor handling effects, theft, fire, water damage, unexplained disappearance, transportation issues, weather-related events, third-party actions, or other circumstances outside its reasonable control. Liability is limited to loss or damage directly caused by Barkonaut’s gross negligence or willful misconduct.

Can Barkonaut use photos of my items?
Yes. By consigning, you authorize Barkonaut to photograph, advertise, display, transport, store, promote, bundle, and sell your approved items through its trailer, pop-up events, consignment events, social media, and other approved sales channels.

What do I need to confirm before consigning?
You confirm that you own the item—or have permission to consign it—and that it is clean, safe, legal to sell, accurately described, and free of undisclosed defects.

You also confirm that the item does not infringe someone else’s ownership or intellectual-property rights.
